Shaping Iraq’s Economic Future: A Distinguished Roundtable Breakfast in Baghdad

On August 26, 2025, Salt & Associates, in proud collaboration with AHK Iraq, hosted an elegant Business Breakfast Roundtable at its offices at Al Ameerat in the heart of Baghdad.

This thoughtfully curated gathering brought together an esteemed assembly of business leaders, diplomats, policymakers, and industry experts to engage in a dynamic and open dialogue about Iraq’s evolving legal and business landscape. Designed to foster meaningful connections and actionable insights, the event underscored the importance of collaboration in unlocking Iraq’s immense economic potential.

The roundtable was honored by the presence of representatives from the German Embassy’s Economic Department in Baghdad, whose participation added a vital diplomatic perspective to the discussions.

Joining them were distinguished delegates from leading international organizations and companies, including BMW-Al Uroush Automotive, Baly, Martrade, Wilo, Al Masaood, KFW, Lucky Cement, Al Alousi Group, and The World Bank, alongside other prominent figures from Iraq’s business and government sectors. This diverse group enriched the conversation, bringing a wealth of expertise and unique viewpoints on the opportunities and challenges of operating in Iraq’s dynamic market, with a particular focus on navigating the complexities of double taxation.

Our Managing Partner, Mohammed Koperly, based in Iraq, and Partner, Ahmed Subhi, from our Dubai office, delivered a compelling keynote address that illuminated the intricacies of double taxation in Iraq.

Their presentation offered practical, actionable strategies for investors to mitigate these challenges, emphasizing that with careful planning and forward-thinking reforms, businesses can thrive in Iraq’s promising market. Their central message resonated powerfully with attendees: while double taxation poses a significant hurdle, it is far from insurmountable when approached with strategic foresight and collaboration.

The roundtable format fostered an atmosphere of open exchange, with lively discussions and a robust Q&A session that highlighted the critical need for ongoing dialogue between businesses, legal advisors, and policymakers. Participants explored topics ranging from regulatory frameworks and investment incentives to the broader economic reforms necessary to create a more predictable and attractive investment climate in Iraq.

The event also served as a platform for forging new partnerships and strengthening existing ones, with attendees leaving inspired and better equipped to navigate Iraq’s business landscape.

Salt & Associates and AHK Iraq are deeply grateful to all participants whose contributions made this event a resounding success. Their insights and commitment to Iraq’s economic growth laid the foundation for impactful conversations that will continue to shape the nation’s business future.

We look forward to hosting more such gatherings, fostering collaboration, and driving meaningful progress in Iraq’s vibrant economic ecosystem.
