Executive Banking Roundtable: The Future of Banking Compliance and Regulatory Governance in Iraq

Salt & Associates hosted an Executive Banking Roundtable on “The Future of Banking Compliance and Regulatory Governance in Iraq,” bringing together senior representatives from Iraq’s banking sector and the international community for a focused discussion on the evolving regulatory landscape and its implications for banking compliance in Iraq and the future of the country’s banking sector.

Banking compliance in Iraq: regulatory reform and governance challenges

The roundtable provided a closed and constructive setting for participants to exchange views on key issues affecting the sector, including regulatory reform, AML and compliance, corporate governance, correspondent banking, institutional capacity and the practical challenges facing banks operating in Iraq.

A key theme of the discussion was the need to view regulatory compliance and commercial development as complementary objectives. As regulatory expectations continue to develop, banks face the challenge of strengthening compliance and governance frameworks while maintaining operational efficiency, supporting innovation and responding effectively to the needs of the market.

Strengthening Iraq’s Regulatory Framework and International Banking Integration

The discussion also considered the broader role of a credible and effective regulatory framework in strengthening confidence in Iraq’s financial sector, supporting responsible investment and facilitating greater integration with the international banking system.

The roundtable featured contributions from Ahmad Subhi and Dr. Essam Al Husseini, alongside perspectives from participating representatives across the banking and international community.

Salt & Associates remains committed to creating meaningful platforms for dialogue between the legal, banking, regulatory and international communities, and to contributing to informed discussions on the development of Iraq’s financial and business environment.

We thank all speakers and participants for their valuable contributions and for making the roundtable a constructive and engaging exchange.
